More Changes in Outlook

I accidentally discovered another change in Outlook this week.

One of the tasks I perform for one of my regular clients involves creating v-cards (contact records) for her prospects and emailing them to her. In Outlook 2003, I was able to enter the information into a new contact, save it as a v-card in My Documents, close without saving, and attach the v-card to an email along with other information. Unfortunately, if I assigned a category or put any details in the notes section, this information was not included in the copy she received.

I naturally tried to follow the same process with Outlook 2007. The "save as" function seemed different, but I thought I figured it out. Then my client emailed me to tell me all the v-cards I sent her were blank. emoticon I guess I should have checked them first, but I assumed (yes, I know what happens when we assume…) they would be fine.

Apparently in Outlook 2007, I have to save them in my contacts, then attach the contact to my email. To make it easier for me to find and delete them (since I have no need to keep them once I’ve sent them to my client) I started assigning a category, and lo and behold, the category remains intact when I send the v-cards.

So I guess this one is a lose-win situation, rather than a win-win situation, but it’s better than a lose-lose situation! And for my client, it’s better, because she doesn’t have to assign a category when she receives them, or copy and paste information from my email to the notes section.
